  • Squid 2.5 is most current stable version.
  • 3.0 has many new features, but isn't released yet.
  • Squid is very efficient. It's almost never CPU-bound, sometimes memory bound, always I/O bound.
  • Ability to do cache clustering sets it apart from Apache's caching facilities.
